Pre Procedure

The Pre Procedure Appointment Explained by Dr. Philip Young & The YoungVitalizer Team:

The Pre Procedure Appointment Explained: The pre procedure appointment is usually carried out 2 weeks before your procedure. The purpose of this procedure is for us to review your health and to see how physically and mentally fit you are to handle this procedure. We will determine if there are any precautions that we might need to take prior to your procedure. Sometimes medical clearances are needed to assess your health further. We will likely request a hernia clearance from your primary care physician (or a specialist that does hernia type of procedures) if we are thinking about harvesting tissue from your abdomen. If you are not harvesting tissue from your abdomen, the hernia clearance can be avoided. Our staff will help you with these clearances if needed.

More Details on what we do during this important Pre Procedure Appointment: The pre procedure appointment is also when we plan out your YoungVitalizer Procedure. We would like you to bring in photos of yourself when you were the age between 10-20. We will use these photographs to help us in our volumizing goals. With your help, we will determine how much volume and where the volume will go. The YoungVitalizer procedure will be individually tailored to fit your desires, needs, facial anatomy, etc. This is also the time that we will consider where we are going to harvest your tissue from. The most common areas are your abdomen, hips, waist, side of the legs, inner part of the legs, inner part of the knee, lower back, upper back, etc. A common question is whether the harvesting will change the shape of the area being harvested. Because we are harvesting a limited amount of tissue from each area, the change in the anatomy and appearance of the area being harvested should be minimal. Some people have felt that the changes have been quite positive in the areas that we harvest tissues. But we don’t emphasize this effect.

Below are some areas that are denoted by the yellow green YoungVitalizer dots that show the different areas that we consider volumizing:

These areas include the: forehead, temple, glabella (between the eyes), medial brow, lateral brow, inferior edge of superior orbital rim (edge of bone below the eyebrows), central eyelid, lateral canthus (side of the eyes), tear trough (middle part of the lower eyelid), medial inferior orbital rim and lower eyelid, lateral inferior orbital rim and lower eyelid, lateral cheek, anterior cheek, buccal cheek, pyriform nasal fossa (area around the nose), nasolabial folds (upper part of the main mouth fold, wrinkle surrounding mouth), marionette lines (lower part of the main mouth fold, wrinkle surrounding mouth), labiomental sulcus (depression under lips between lips and chin), chin, prejowl sulcus (the area in front of the jowls), lateral jaw area, lips, and hands. We go over all these areas and discuss how much we are going to put in those areas. This can help us plan together your YoungVitalizer rejuvenation.

During this appointment we will ask you to refrain from blood thinners 2 weeks before and after your procedure. Here is a list of medications and consumables to avoid that can thin your blood and lead to extra bruising, swelling and bleeding (and ultimately a longer recovery): Click here for The YoungVitalizer Medications to Avoid. We will also emphasize that you should drink 64 ounces of Gatorade (or something with solutes like v8 juice, coconut water, etc) at that 6 hour point before your procedure. You should not drink just water as this could be harmful. Consuming these fluids will help us start your iv (intravenous line) for your procedure. We will also remind you at this appointment that you should strictly refrain from eating or drinking 6 hours before your procedure. Not following this particular instruction could possibly mean a cancellation of your procedure.
